91st Birthday Celebration of Sri Manna Dey

We are proud to experience another brilliant performance by the Legendary music Maestro Sri Manna Dey on his 91st birthday, held on 1st May 2010 at Mahajati Sadan in the eve of our Annual program.

The program started  by observing 1min. of silence in the memory of our Founder President and the youngest brother of Sri Manna Dey, Late Pravas Chandra Dey, and the well known music personality Mr. Robin Ganguly.  This was followed with a welcome music, where a dance troop welcomed the living Legend, Sri Manna Dey with "pradip", and our members showed him respect with flowers, chandan, sweets, fruits, memento, & bouquets. The hall rang with the deep sound of conch shells and the applause of the audience. Many others came up with bouquets as a Tribute towards him. Among them was the Chairman of Coal India Limited, Mr Parthasarathi Bhattacharyya, eminent music directors Sri Abhijeet Bandyopadhyay, Sri Mrinal Bandyopadhyay, Sri Suparna kanti Ghosh, Sri Dipankar Chattyopadhyay, Sm. Ashima Mukherjee, lyricist Sri Bankim Ghosh, Sm Mukti Roychowdhury, Sri Debaprosad Chakraborty, singer Sm. Hoimonti Shukla and others - to name a few. 

That same yet new, golden voice, mesmerized the whole audience right from the beginning to the very end. Numerous requests poured in from different corners of the auditorium. He ended with a song very close to his heart, ‘Ami niralay boshe...’ the feeling with which he sang brought tears to many eyes, including his.

At the end he presented Manna Dey Sangeet Academy Awards to the recipients. 

On his 91st birthday we pray for his healthy life and for the opportunity to hear this Golden Voice around us for years hence.
