The 7th Annual Programme of Manna Dey Sangeet Academy was organized at “Kalakunj” Auditorium at Shakespeare Sarani on 1st May 2012, the 93rd birthday of Sangeet Ratna Sri Manna Dey.
The programme started at 6 p.m. with the recorded Stotram, rendered by Sri Manna Dey, followed by the presentation of a short audio-visual on the activities of the academy. A short video clipping (recorded a week ago at his Kalyan Nagar’s residence) was shown in continuation to that where Sri Manna Dey greeted his fans on his 93rd birthday. He also wished the success of the programme.
A few snapshots of Sri Manna Dey were shown which had been taken this morning at Bangalore by a member of the Academy. Sri Satinath Mukhopadhyay, one of the Vice President of the academy took the charge of the mike. Renowned names in the field of Bangla music world Sri Abhijit Bandyopadhyay and Sri Mrinal Bandyopadhyay were felicitated by the academy with uttorio, flower bouquet, sweets and maan potro. Sri Deboprosad Chakraborty & Sri Binoy Deb red the maan potro written by them. Two other Vice Presidents of the Academy Dr Sujit Bhattacharyya and Sri G K Bhattacharyya presented the two legend music composer two beautiful mementos, the replica of old gramophone player.
The three prize winners of this years’ Manna Dey Sangeet Academy Award 2012’ through the music competition (Ms Piyali Ghosal, Ms Sinjijni Sengupta and Ms Somasri Roy) were awarded. After that the musical section started. ‘Tomar Surey Tomar Gaaney’ was the title of the pragramme. The songs rendered by or music composed by Sri Manna Dey were sung by the singers. Among the singers were Sri Dipankar Chattopadhyay, Sri Jyotiprakash Chattopadhyay, Sri Pallab Ghosh, Sri Abhishek Das (Ronie), Smt. Rupa Sarkar, Smt. Saraswati Baguli Mondal.
The last singer was Smt. Haimanti Shukla. She sang a few immortal songs music of which were composed by Sri Manna Dey for her. “Aamar Bolar Kichhu Chhilo Na”, “Eto Sukh Dio Na”, “Sukher Dinguli Dure Chale Jaye”, “Keno Nayane Aabir Charale” to name a few. However the audience wanted more when the clock had already touched 9 p.m. The expectation for the next year’s programme became even more when Smt. Shukla wanted to join that programme too!
It was really a nice musical evening tribute to Sri Manna Dey at his 93rd birthday with full of spectators at the hall.
